tumeric lattes, recipe from Kate Magic

We love the recipes that Kate Magic creates and are delighted that she is sharing one of them with us. We can’t recommend these Tumeric Lattes highly enough.

The Turmeric Lattes

Makes 4 cups
Takes 5 mins
You need a blender

Yes, everyone does a Turmeric Latte. But I bet you’ve never had one quite like mine. I drank this every day over the winter, the whole litre of it, usually in the afternoon around 3 or 4pm. It gives me the exact calm and positive energy I’m looking for to get me through until the evening meal.

The benefits of turmeric are manifold: it’s the best natural anti-inflammatory and one of the top natural anti-depressants, for starters. And did you know the addition of black pepper increases the bio-availability of the curcumin content in the turmeric by 2000%?! The addition of fats in the form of coconut oil also increases bioavailabilty, the cinnamon balances the blood sugar, ginger boosts the immune system, and cayenne aids digestion. Truly medicinal, and perfect to aid recovery after an intense Bikram session.

  • 1 tbsp maca powder
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 5 drops stevia (or your preferred sweetener)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4tsp ginger powder
  • pinch ground black pepper
  • pinch cayenne powder
  • 1 litre hot water

Put everything in the blender together and blend. I heat my water to 80 degrees rather than boiling it, so as not to scald the ingredients in the drink and destroy the subtle flavours.
